Using Prozac & Other Antidepressants for Your Pet
Veterinary & Aquatic Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith

Q. Are prozac and other antidepressants really used in pets?

A. Prozac and other antidepressants are used in the treatment of behavior problems in dogs and cats. These medications may be helpful for pets with obsessive-compulsive behaviors and certain aggression or fear-related disorders. Medications alone, however, can generally not 'cure' behavior problems, but must be used in conjunction with various behavior modification techniques.

If your pet has a behavior problem, please consult your veterinarian and/or an animal behaviorist.
