Diethylcarbamazine is a daily heartworm preventive. Always obtain a negative heartworm test before starting daily administration. Side effects are uncommon, but anaphylactic shock and death can occur if given to a heartworm-infected dog. It is safe to use in pregnant dogs and those nursing puppies.

Diethylcarbamazine is no longer commercially available in the United States.


Keep this and all other medications out of the reach of children and pets.
