Q. Is one type of vaccine better than another?

A. Pet owners often ask what type of vaccine is the best. The answer to this question depends on the situation. In general, immunity from a modified live vaccine will develop faster and last longer than that produced by a killed vaccine, so modified live vaccines are recommended over killed vaccines in most circumstances. The newer recombinant vaccines are less likely to cause allergic reactions.
