Aonchotheca is a parasite of mink and cats. It is rarely found in the United States, being more common in Europe. It is of some importance because its eggs can be easily confused with those of Trichuris campanula and T. serrata (feline whipworms). It is related to Capillaria aerophila (fox lungworm), Capillaria plica, and C. felis cati (bladder worm). It can cause a severe intestinal disease in mink.
