Q. Is eating feces a sign of dietary deficiency?

A. Dogs that eat their feces usually do not have a dietary deficiency. Some medical problems, however, can contribute to coprophagy (eating feces). Anxiety and stress may also play a role. For some dogs, eating feces may be a behavior learned from watching other animals. Bitches normally eat the feces of their newborn puppies. Finally, some dogs may eat feces just because it tastes good (to them).
